A 404 Not found error is a webserver’s code for "There's nothing here."
The error means that your browser is able to communicate with the server but it is unable to locate the requested file or resource.
Determining why
404 errors can occur in a large variety of situations. Here are some questions to ask while troubleshooting:
- Does the link have a typo in it?
- Did you type in the wrong URL?
- Does the file exist in the correct location on the server? Was the resource was moved or deleted on the server? This can happen with files or pages that are linked to on someone else's web server.
Generally your web developer will try to avoid 404 errors at all costs since Google doesn't like seeing them but if you find a 404 link on your website notify your account manager and we'll try to get it resolved right away.
